Common rejection reasons and how to avoid them
Patterns that official pages warn about, not a prediction for any individual case. Universities and visa authorities decide each application. Checked 2026-10-22.
University application risks
1. Missing HEC evidence
- What the official page says
your Degree certificate including an overview of subjects and grades (if available) with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) attestation stamps
Source: https://www.uni-assist.de/en/tools/info-country-by-country/details-country/country/pk/ · checked 2026-10-22
Avoid it: get HEC attestation first, and check whether your route also asks for HEC verification.
2. Incomplete or late uploads
- What the official page says
If documents are missing or are not uploaded in time, the requirements have not been met and we will not be able to forward your application to the university.

Avoid it: use a checklist per programme and upload complete certificates early.
3. Too few credits for that programme
- What the official page says
Applicants with fewer than 180 ECTS credits from their first degree cannot be admitted to the Masters’ degree programme.
Source: https://www.th-rosenheim.de/en/studies-and-further-education/courses-of-study/masters-degree-programmes/advanced-industrial-engineering · checked 2026-10-22
Avoid it: compare your transcript with the exact credit requirement before applying.
4. Subject mismatch
- What the official page says
More than 99 percent of applicants from these countries are rejected because the curricula of their degree programs or their theses do not meet our requirements.

Avoid it: map your modules, subject credits and thesis against the programme's published conditions.
5. Not meeting a stated admission requirement
- What the official page says
No, your application cannot be considered if you do not meet the admission requirements.
Source: https://www.uni-weimar.de/en/civil-and-environmental-engineering/studies/master-degree-programmes/digital-engineering/application-procedure/faq/ · checked 2026-10-22
Avoid it: check every requirement (grade, subjects, language) on the programme page before you pay any fee.
6. Language proof the programme does not accept
- What the official page says
Even if your entire bachelor's degree program in, for example, Bangladesh, India, or Pakistan was in English, you must submit a TOEFL, IELTS or CAE certificate
Source: https://www.informatik.uni-bonn.de/en/studies/master-programs/master-program-application · checked 2026-10-22
Avoid it: do not assume a medium-of-instruction letter is enough; read the programme's language rule.
7. Applying for a VPD too late
- What the official page says
Request your VPD as early as possible, ideally at least 8 weeks before the deadline
Source: https://www.uni-assist.de/en/how-to-apply/plan-your-application/vpd/ · checked 2026-10-22
Avoid it: put the VPD milestone weeks ahead of the deadline in the deadline countdown.
Visa risks
8. Incomplete visa file
- What the official page says
Persons depositing incomplete applications will not receive an appointment but will be instead asked to pick up their paperwork and re-submit it to the box.

Avoid it: check every checklist item before you submit.
9. False residence details or documents
- What the official page says
Persons found being disingenuous about their actual place of residence will have their applications refused and may face criminal prosecution if found to be providing fake or forged documents.

Avoid it: give truthful residence information and genuine documents only.

Frequently asked questions
What is the fastest way to reduce document risk?
Upload complete documents before the deadline; uni-assist says it cannot forward a file with missing or late documents.
Can a four-year Pakistani degree still have a credit issue?
Yes, where the programme's threshold is higher. TH Rosenheim, for example, states that applicants with fewer than 180 ECTS cannot be admitted, and TH Lübeck states that Pakistani engineering bachelors are not equivalent to its required 210 ECTS.
Is an English-medium letter always accepted?
No. The University of Bonn requires TOEFL, IELTS or CAE even after an English-taught bachelor's in Pakistan.
How early should I request a VPD?
Ideally at least 8 weeks before the deadline, according to uni-assist.
Can I appeal a visa refusal through remonstration?
No. The German Embassy Islamabad states that from 1 July 2025 the remonstration procedure for visa rejections is cancelled indefinitely.
