CGPA to German grade calculator
Uses the modified Bavarian formula: German grade = 1 + 3 × (best − yours) ÷ (best − minimum pass). Defaults follow HEC: 4.00 scale, 2.00 minimum CGPA for a BS degree. Use the minimum passing grade from your own university’s rules if it differs; the result is indicative and the evaluating body (uni-assist or the university) decides.
Use the minimum CGPA or percentage needed to award the degree at your university (uni-assist asks for this), not a single course pass mark. For a percentage the best is 100 and the pass mark is the one you pick (50% semester system, 33% annual system); the result always shows the pass mark it assumed. Check your own transcript.
German grades
| Grade | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 1.0–1.5 | very good |
| 1.6–2.5 | good |
| 2.6–3.5 | satisfactory |
| 3.6–4.0 | sufficient |
Lower is better. Some programmes publish a German-grade threshold; check your chosen programme’s current admission rules. The tool shows two results: rounded to one decimal (as the StudyGate eligibility engine does) and truncated (cut off after the first decimal, which many universities do). The university decides which one applies.
